I have been on over a dozen cruises. This is the only bad one I have experienced. Although
we had paid for the crossing, the company did not send our tickets. I called New York for
several weeks, and was given a different person to speak to each time. The problem was
never resolved. When I asked to speak to someone in charge, my request was refused. I
finally had to go to the library and look up the names of those in charge. I sent a fax to
the corporate headquarters in England, which apparently is the only way to get anyone's
attention. The tickets arrived just days before we were to sail. When we got on the ship,
however, it did not seem that anyone knew we were actually to be on board, as our cabin
was not cleaned, nor was there a dining room assignment or key. No one would take charge
of resolving these problems and we spent much of the first day out solving these
shortcomings ourselves. The ship was run down and dirty over all, and we did not find the
service up to par. The dining room left a lot to be desired. The plates and glassware were
chipped and cracked. This was not just one or two glasses or plates but virtually every
one we saw. We even noticed a steward setting a table for the second dinner sitting who
dropped a piece of silverware on the floor and then reset the table with the piece he had
dropped. If you want a luxury cruise, go on Holland America. Cunard is way past being the
premier cruise company.
